This collective centre demonstrates the value of design within a community.

The timber form frames a gathering place for the small local community and embraces an idyllic view of the water beyond. Construction has been undertaken by people living on the island, many of whom freely gave their time and effort.

There is a profoundly personal connection between our studio and the community. One of our key contributions in the project is affirming the materiality and architectural character of the region. Lengthy workshops ensure community involvement and commitment. Design documentation came as a series of targeted, discrete packages.

This allows our architectural services to be offered for the most crucial issues whilst maintaining the advantages and efficiencies of local knowledge in the procurement of the building.
