This astute residence balances the character of the site and a distant panorama.

Set within a pine plantation overlooking the entry to Westernport Bay, the residence accords concern for the huge Cypress Pines and a broad distant seascape of ocean and bay. The two main vistas are a response to these concerns.

The east facade faces the ocean and provides a clear view through a range of glazing profiles. The west facade faces the pines and floats over a broad carpet of pine needles reflecting their craggy texture. With an inverted radius the walls break inward at the centre to link both external conditions.

Working elements are combined and housed in two joinery fitments. One contains kitchen, bar, fireplace and storage and defines the edge of the dining living and balcony. The other contains powder room, bathroom, bedhead, robe, study desk and bookshelves, and floats centrally to define the principal bedroom, dressing area, study and passage.
