Beach Houses Down Under
The beach houses in this book don't follow a specific trend. Some are relatively modest and consist of a couple of bedrooms, a simple bathroom, a basic kitchen and a large timber deck. For the owners of these homes, the pleasure comes from being near the sand and the surf. Other houses featured in this book are more sophisticated and include all the features found in a city home, from en-suite bathrooms to high tech kitchens. But even in these homes, the atmosphere is far more relaxed and spontaneous, responding to the views over the water rather than being preoccupied with finishes and surfaces.
Beach houses are often an escape for their owners at the end of each week or on a more irregular basis. The opportunity to design a beach house is also an escape for the architects, who are often given fewer constraints when coming up with a design.
