This medical research facility fosters collegiality and encourages cross fertilising of ideas across multiple disciplines.

A major front entrance with porte-cochere leads to a dramatic entry atrium to complement the advanced laboratories and supporting office environments. This atrium space is interrupted by stair and bridge connections across non-laboratory levels to cultivate greater communication between floors and fortuitous research from serendipitous meetings.

A demonstration laboratory made transparent exposes the process of research to the visitor. An enormous glass wall is the canvas for an integrated public artwork by Judy Watson.

This fifteen floor state of the art medical research facility accommodates 400 scientists in 20 purpose built research laboratories. At its centre is a floor dedicated to the interaction of scientists and researchers outside of the laboratory to stimulate collaboration and pollinate ideas across different areas of expertise.

Located on the Royal Brisbane Hospital campus, it provides a centrepiece for one of the largest medical research institutes in the southern hemisphere. This building connects the Bancroft Centre and the Clive Berghofer Cancer Research Centre, and enables a significant expansion of QIMR’s indigenous health, tropical health, biosecurity, and cancer and genetics research.
